This session will walk participants through starting their class blog and creating the framework. They will be ready to start blogging with their classes on day 1 of the new school year. If they have their class lists and information available, student accounts will be created as well. Examples of blogs where students have been blogging will be demonstrated. Creative commons will be investigated and participants will be able to license their blog with creative commons. The partnership between Marie Swift and Jaclyn Calder will provide both the experience of classroom blogging and that of leading teachers through use of these tools to work in unison. Discussions will focus around best practices and the practicalities of use in class while participants are guided through the initial set up of their blog. Depending on the groups wishes, topics such as parental permissions, RSS feeds, moderation of student posts and comments, embedding video and web 2.0 tools or recording and posting audio tracks will be addressed.
Marie Swift is an elementary teacher who has also taken the role of Literacy Coach within her school.
